Here are the 6 best dry shampoos that do a great job at reviving hair. And I tried a lot of dry shampoos! So this should save you time and money.
If you’ve read any of my other hair articles, like this one about a digital perm or my overtone hair color review, you probably know that I have thick, heavy hair. My hair can look flat and matted down within a day if I don’t wash it. In an attempt to keep my processed hair healthy, I decided to wash it every other day. Washing hair daily can strip your hair of essential oils and often leads to an overproduction of oil in your scalp. This can create a cycle of dependency on hair washing. It took a few weeks before my hair adjusted to less frequent washings so I used dry shampoo to get me through it! At first, I tried a few drugstore dry shampoos that weighed my hair down and made me feel like I had a layer of dirty paste on my scalp all day. It was gross and a total waste of money!
Best Dry Shampoo #1: Batiste Dry Shampoo
I really like Batiste for its value, variety, and overall quality. It’s affordable at around $6 a can and comes in multiple scents. They also offer a tinted one for dark hair. I found that this dry shampoo kept my hair as light and fresh as the pricier brands.
Best Dry Shampoo #2: Unwash Dry Cleanser
Unwash’s dry cleanser swaps talc powder for a lighter alternative, volcanic ash. As a huge fan of volcanic ash products, I was immediately sold. Not the mention, it’s sulfate and paraben free!
Best Dry Shampoo #3: Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk
Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk, Ultra-Gentle, All Hair Types, No White Residue, Paraben & Sulfate-Free, 3.2 oz.
Klorane is my favorite scented dry shampoo. If I had to describe the scent in one word, it would be “classy”. It has a fine mist that makes hair feel fresh and lighter than other dry shampoos because of the formula’s use of oat milk and rice powder to absorb excess oil. The only downside is the price because I tend to need a lot of dry shampoo.
Best Dry Shampoo #4: Lush Dry Shampoo
This is one of the few dry shampoos that I like in the powder form. You do have to brush it out thoroughly in order to avoid a grayish hue on dark hair. However, it’s travel friendly and a great value for the amount of uses you get. Tip: I squeeze the gently bottle above my head so a powdery mist comes out instead of pouring the powder on my hair.
Best Dry Shampoo #5: Living Proof Perfect Hair Dry Shampoo
Not only does Jennifer Aniston have perfect hair, living proof products have always been on point. Their dry shampoo makes hair feel clean and is easily brushed out of the hair.
Best Dry Shampoo #6: Not Your Mother’s 2 Piece Beach Babe Texturizing Dry Shampoo
This brand offers a few different dry shampoos but I prefer the texturizing dry shampoo the most because of leaves my hair looking effortlessly tousled but not frizzy. Not to mention its coconut-y scent and de-greasing properties. The brand also offers a clean freak and volumizing version of dry shampoo.
Dry Shampoo Tips
When using a spray dry shampoo, make sure to turn the bottle upside and shake the bottle vigorously for several minutes. This ensures that the cleansing powder coats your hair evenly.
If you have dark hair then you’ll have to brush your hair out well to avoid the white residue left after spraying. You can also look for dry shampoo for dark hair like the one Batiste offers.
