When it comes to travel — for business or pleasure — the quality of your luggage can make or break your trip. In our Away luggage review, we look at their top products and their unique features.
Away, a New York-based luggage brand launched in 2015, offers a range of luggage to meet every need in a very stylish way.
What’s Special About Away?
Away’s fashionable polycarbonate and aluminum suitcases ensure high-performance and durability. But just in case you need some added security, their luggage is also guaranteed for life.
A direct-to-consumer approach is one of the things that sets Away apart from other luggage companies. You can buy Away’s luggage online, or in a few of their select stores.
By selling directly to their customers, Away can cut back on additional costs, and in effect, lower their prices.

Away is Fit for the Conscious Consumer
One of the greatest things about the company is that they’re thinking beyond the bottom-line.
Away works with environmentally-conscious suppliers to cut back on waste, and they partner with a carbon-neutral printer for their magazine.
They’ve also partnered with Peace Direct, which is a nonprofit that builds peace in areas of conflict around the world. When you buy from Away, you’re also contributing to Peace Direct’s work.

Let’s Review Away’s Competitors
There are a lot of luggage companies out there — too many to list here! After a little research, as far as I can tell, here are three of Away’s main competitors:
Bluesmart
Bluesmart’s suitcases are bigger than Away’s standard suitcases, but they still fit most airline cabins. Somehow though, even though they’re bigger, they’re also lighter. Bluesmart’s standard suitcase’s main compartment is zippered, and the secondary compartment can fit a 15″ laptop. The size of the suitcase is sufficient for a weekend getaway or business trip, and is made of durable polycarbonate and aluminum. Bluesmart’s luggage is more expensive than Away’s luggage.
Tumi
Tumi’s standard suitcase is also lighter than the standard Away suitcase. It has a lined, zippable compartment, and two complete zippered interior compartments that separate the contents of the top and bottom halves of your suitcase. There are extra interior zippered pockets for packing smaller items, too. The Tumi’s outer shell is capable of bending and “responding” to impact, making it less susceptible to damage. Tumi’s luggage is much more expensive than Away’s luggage.
GoPenguin
GoPenguin’s suitcases are smaller and more compact than Away’s standard suitcase, and they don’t have the packing capacity that Away’s suitcases have. GoPenguin’s suitcases boast 360° “whisper-quiet” all-terrain wheels… I guess for when you’re rolling your suitcase through the hills? The suitcases feature sturdy interior dividers and clasps and a Makrolon® Polycarbonate Shell, and they easily fit in overhead compartments. GoPenguin’s luggage is less expensive than Away’s luggage.
Away Luggage Review Verdict
Away’s luggage seems incredibly lightweight and durable, providing a considerable amount of space even in its smallest size. Their luggage is modern and stylish and includes convenient features like a USB port for charging, which is a huge step up from traditional bags.
I would recommend giving Away a try. They offer fantastic value for their products plus a 100-day trial period — so there’s nothing to lose!
Away ships almost worldwide, and they offer free delivery in most of Europe.
